Member of Parliament demands restarting Ferry Services connecting Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, Rangat and Long Island

Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has highlighted the problems being faced by people of Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, Rangat and Long Island and other parts of Middle Andaman in traveling from one Island to other, in absence of ferry service connecting Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, Rangat and Long Island.

In his letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Member of Parliament today pointed out that earlier the ferry service connecting Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, Rangat and Long Island was of great benefit for people of these Islands as previously they were able to travel from one Island to other, very fast and with minimum expenditure of nearly Rs. 100 per head.

He pointed out that now in absence of the said ferry service people of remote Islands have to come to come to Port Blair first, halt at Port Blair for tickets and then travel to other Islands, which cost more than Rs.2000 to Rs. 2500 per head. Adding to that, now the journey time is more than 3 to 7 days, as per availability of ferry and ATR bus tickets.

The MP also added that at present, in case four people of any family plans to move from one Island to other, the total expenditure is more than Rs. 10,000 which was nearly Rs. 400 earlier.

Considering such difficulties being faced by public the Member of Parliament demanded to restart the Ferry Services connecting Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, Rangat and Long Island.
